Lauren Scafidi

I’d prefer to throw a lav mic on someone else and share someone else’s story rather than my own, but here it goes.

Now. I report and anchor for 9NEWS (KUSA) in Denver, but storytelling and I go way back.

I can picture 5-year-old Lauren brushing her teeth before kindergarten, “watching” local news. I wasn’t sure what they were talking about, of course. I was sure, however, they had an extremely important job. They updated my mom and dad on all the important things happening in our community before they drove me to school every day. That’s where it all began.

Before college, I lived in the same home in the Chicago suburbs all my life. Growing up, I was always the first to raise my hand for show-and-tell. I have always loved telling stories to anyone who’d, well, at least pretend to listen.

Now, it’s my privilege to bring life to stories, and stories to life. I have been awarded Michigan Association Broadcasters awards for Best Feature Story, Best Reporter, Best Anchor and Best Use of New Medium. I have covered everything from the COVID-19 pandemic to deadly weather, closely watched trials to mass shootings,  and plenty more. I’ve also had the privilege of enjoying the lighter moments on air as well, like skydiving, riding a bull, and hosting Inside The Kitchen with Lauren Scafidi every week.

I am a dynamic storyteller in the field and at the desk.  I am creative in both my written and visual storytelling. I am a strong reporter whether it comes to live shots, breaking news or day turn packages. My fine-tuned time management skills allow me to work exceptionally well under pressure. I have cultivated many relationships and connections, often leading me to my next story if my own curiosity about the world around me doesn’t lead me there first. I am also a solid anchor who can develop major stories into digestible, compelling stories for our viewers. I have turned a simple weather chat into a viral social media poll. I create memorable moments I am often reminded of when running into viewers at the grocery store. I bring engaging content to my large social media following daily, driving them back to our newscast and other digital content. I am a journalist who understands the challenge of our ever-changing digital landscape and how people consume news.

Outside work, I am looking for any excuse to spend time outside, teaching a hot yoga class, emceeing an event, volunteering, or continuing my seven year journey trying to learn how to golf (I’ve got a mean drive, but my short game needs some work). However, whatever I am up to, I am always eager to get back to “work.”
